Humaira Mahi grew up in Hyderabad, India and lived in the American South and the Midwest for some years before making the San Francisco Bay Area home for the last 18 years. Humaira is currently working on a collection of short stories and a novel and is a past recipient of the Carlisle Family Scholarship from the Community of Writers Workshop for her fiction writing. Her writing draws on place, food, art and culture and on her experiences of having been in liminal spaces as an immigrant, a graduate student, a professor and a parent.

Humaira holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering (with an emphasis on water resources) from Duke University and a PhD in Marketing from the University of Minnesota. Humaira was an academic, teaching Marketing and International Business at US business schools for ten years before leaving academia for consulting on marketing strategy & analytics in Silicon Valley. Currently, Humaira is a Co-Founder of a company bringing a transformative technology developed at a US national lab to make industrial processes more efficient and make a positive impact on resource re-use (eg. water re-use) and decarbonization.
